We are thrilled to be using Ann Voskamp’s new advent book with our children this year. Unwrapping the Greatest Gift is beautiful in every sense of the word. We know this will be perfect for most of our children, but our littlest ones might have trouble sitting through some of the readings. We have decided to offer some sensory activities to help our young ones stay engaged, while the older ones listen each day.
We are starting today with some apple pie spiced play-dough and some vines and leaves from outside. We’ve arranged these on a little table in our family room so our little one can be in the midst of our read-a-loud gathering, but has a pleasing and quiet thing to do with her hands that will help her connect with the story.
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups water
1 cup salt
4 tablespoons cream of tartar
3 tablespoons apple pie spice
Combine all ingredients in sauce pan, and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Dough will become thick and darker in color. Turn onto counter and let cool slightly. Knead until smooth.
